December 13th, 2009.

Well, as the year ends, I guess I should say something. Too much has happened to really recap, including my camera fritzing out on me completely. Maybe I'll try again in 2010? Hmm.

Anyway, today I woke up in whistler at 9. Studied briefly before leaving for Vancouver after a quick stop at a local coffeeshop. One of the baristas was a friend of mine, so giant delicious turkey-avocado sandwiches and frothy coffees on the cheaps. My mom drove us down, we listened to dance music and talked about ... music?

It was still snowing as we got to Vancouver a few hours later, which was awesome. We drove by me and Matt's old house and I missed it a lot. Got home and Matt met me in the stairwell, dancing to welcome me. I tried to take a quick nap and failed. Dolled myself up and headed to the craft fair where I sat at the burlesque festival table and sold memberships to the association.

Made a lot of friends, networked like a mad-person, drank 3 free mimosas and a cupcake, bought a magnet with my friend's body on it, sold 4 memberships, and made 3 houses of cards. I also officially applied for chickenship but kept interrupting the application process by talking about Mr T because I was so stir crazy and tipsy after 4 hours of selling no memberships and making best friends with total strangers. Pretty sure I'm in.(?)

Matt met me for dinner at the cafe next door. I ate a salmon steak, mashed potatoes and coffee. He had fish and chips and a coke. It snowed while we walked home. I read come over come over in bed for the 4th time and took a ten minute nap before my phone rang and a polish striptease artist was outside the apartment to pick up the money and the membership cards.

Came back upstairs and am now lying in bed listening to ridiculous music and trying not to study. I emailed my mom a lady gaga video and am reading about amanda knox for the upteenth time this week.

Bye./.

X died yesterday. I haven't cried like that in a really long time. Everything was just really quiet all day. Seeing a living thing you've loved so much and raised and welcomed as such a big part of your life, dead like that -- having to do the practical things like freezing and planning a burial place and getting dressed for school while you're numb with horror and disbelief-- is more than surreal. I've had animals die in my childhood, but it was so different this time, confronting death unpolished and unmade-up. It broke my heart to see my little guy like that. All night we just reminisced and listened to songs that reminded us of him and would just cry and cry and cry over the tiniest memories. Its funny how that is. Pets mean so much more to people than other people realize.

I miss that weight on my shoulder, that little wheezy cough, seeing him scuttle across the floor. We keep listening to all the surf and the benny hill theme and the punk we would play whenever X was little and escaped through the bars or fought with Viktor or chased a cat...its shitty realizing that those days are to be filed into the past now. I can reach him so easily in my memory, but physically hes gone forever and ever. It so strange.

Matt made a little coffin and filled it with fabric scraps and vials of beer and treats and pictures. I decorated it with hearts and wrote the lyrics to The Last Beat of my Heart on the lid. We're burying him tonight in this park by the beach that we go to all the time.

I know newspapers and such don't really embrace pet obituaries, so this is mine. I love my X so much, always and always.

Today we had a warhead showdown and made way too big a deal out of it.

Saturday

A stray kitten spent the day on our lawn, so we did too. We've named her Sputnik, she meows too much. Its cute. Isn't our lawn luscious? Thank you Matt and Franco.

Went to the San Diego Zoo with Mom, Dad and Vanessa. (Pictured. Who is coming to Van in a few weeks to run with me! Sweet.) Saw a hippo. Flew home. Good to be home, but I miss the family.

the end.

RAN A FUCKING MARATHOOOOOOOOOOOOON! The first 20 miles were pie. The last 6.2 miles felt like someone was hammering steel into every bone in my body. Not easy, but the afterparty was awesome. So proud of my parents. And myself. And my "team." Super happy day.

Marathon expo. Found some Elvi, ate some free kiwi and drank some free chocolatemilk. Bonded with my more-than-amazing running team, and ate a taco.

Got scared crapless about the flight to San Diego, so bought an $11 bottle of wine and opened it in a toilet stall with house keys and an eyeliner pencil. I got McGuyver-drunk, then flew to sunny San Diego.

After months of working at it, the boyfriend finished up his minotaur and whisked it off to the Circle gallery. We celebrated with pink drinks that magically inspired triangle-shaped ice cube formations. Gettit? Get the pose? Anyway our kitchen counter is pretty festive.

I don't remember. But I took step-by-step pictures of me making hair extensions, in case someone ever needs a visual guide. You can never be too careful.

Sunday

Went to Matt/Muffin/Trevor/etc concert in Crab Park today. It was shockingly succesful, unstopped by THE MAN!!! and all that. Even drew some curious, unlikely onlookers. We got pizza on the other side of town with the cast and crew afterwards, and then home.

Saw this, and another bear, on the drive down to Vancouver today. (whoa)
